Though simple in design, infographics can be powerful (and interesting!) ways of relaying otherwise boring data. I enjoy both design and data, so infographics are a perfect marriage of both. I especially enjoy the clean lines and lighter color schemes that most infographic designs employ.
If a design is useful and attractive enough, other channels of media – like news agencies and magazines – will request the use of an infographic for their publications. Infographics are usually given free to these groups in exchange for the advertising benefits the creator/client will receive by having their branding featured in the footer.
